In 1997 we gutted and built and enlarged the kitchen here at Many Branches. We put in two of everything except for the SubZero (which I hate). Today both ovens have called it a day--at the same time if you can believe that. It put me in mind of the Christmas when ten major things broke at once. No one can say how it happens, but I am proof that it does. Now two ovens one might think would not be too expensive, but that's where you would err. I have one large convection oven which I use all of the time and one normal sized regular oven and they have had a work out as you might have guessed by all the food I show on this blog. The normal sized oven has no excuse, however, for it was certainly less used. But die they both did without a howdy-do. It will take two weeks to get new ones because Whirlpool is busy buying up every known appliance company including Kitchen Aid. By the time the buying ends there will be only about two appliance choices one can make and Whirlpool will be the biggest. Not fond of that company, but there you go. Now I have an excuse to stop cooking?? Not exactly, there are ways and ways and we are having too much company to sit and pine over ovens.
One other thing that Beth is going to take care of while we are in Florida for a month is having the kitchen floor refinished. I love that heart of pine floor, but the dogs have had their way with it and it must be done. I have told the floor men I want several coats of polyurethane, not two, more than two, but no, they know best...I bet this time I get my multiple coats or it won't be done. (I am glad to be gone during that fracas.)
You don't need an oven for this rice dish from Mennonite Girls Can Cook: Ginger, carrot rice~
http://octoberfarm.blogspot.com/ As I was looking at other blogs that can pop up now and then I was interested in this one and went to look at it. I found it charming and colorful and comforting. Check it out when you have time.
